San Diego's Largest Bake Sale to Raise Critical Funds for Mama's Kitchen

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) October 2, 2008 -- The Mama's Pie In The Sky bake sale is now in it's fourth year, and is the largest, organized bake sale of its kind in San Diego (and possibly the West Coast). San Diego's top bakers, caterers and chefs including Sycuan Resort & Casino, SeaWorld, Ono Sushi and Elizabethan Desserts, generously donate these delectable, handcrafted holiday pies. These apple, pecan, pumpkin, and sugar-free apple pies are sure to warm the hearts and tables of thousands throughout San Diego County neighborhoods this Thanksgiving.

Individuals and business volunteers from throughout San Diego County are selling the pies from now until Nov. 21. Pies are just $20 each and are tax-deductible. One-hundred percent of the proceeds benefit Mama's Kitchen's programs. Pie buyers can select from more than 20 sites (see attached), including selected Wells Fargo Bank locations, throughout San Diego County to pick up their pies on Wed., Nov. 26, the day before the Thanksgiving holiday. The public is encouraged to purchase pies early, to ensure they will have one (or many) for their Thanksgiving get-togethers. Pies also make great client gifts for businesses, and can be purchased in bulk. Pies can also be purchased online at the Mama's Kitchen web site (http://www.mamaskitchen.org).

Every pie sold pays for almost half of each client's weekly meals - meals they might not have had without Mama's Kitchen and the support of the community. This year, Mama's Kitchen hopes to sell 5,000 pies and raise $100,000 to fund thousands of free, hot nutritious meals and help ensure that no one living with AIDS or other critical illnesses in the community will go hungry. Clients live in all regions of San Diego County: north to Oceanside and San Marcos, east to Alpine, south to Otay Mesa and Chula Vista as well as central San Diego and the beach communities. Mama's Kitchen has never turned away anyone who has qualified for its services and the net proceeds of this year's Mama's Pie In The Sky program, sponsored by Wells Fargo, Pepsi, Sycuan Resort & Casino, Hard Rock Hotel, Sea World, Sophie 103.7 FM, and The San Diego Business Journal will enable her to keep her promise.

Volunteers are the "engine" of this massive community initiative. Volunteers are are still needed from churches, businesses, community centers and families who can sell pies to co-workers and friends as well as staff the distribution sites. All volunteers will receive orientation training, materials, and support. To learn more or to volunteer for Mama's Pie in the Sky, please contact Mama's Kitchen at 619-233-6262 or visit the Mama's Kitchen web site (http://www.mamaskitchen.org).

About Mama's Kitchen

Mama's Kitchen was founded in 1990 when volunteers from the AIDS Assistance Fund, a food bank for people with AIDS, discovered that many of their clients were becoming too ill to take care of themselves. They realized that a reliable home meal delivery service was needed to ensure that these individuals would continue to receive nutritious food. In 2006, Mama's Kitchen expanded their mission to include delivery of hot meals to people with other critical illnesses, such as cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. Today, Mama's Kitchen provides three meals a day for every day of the week to over 300 men, women, and children affected by AIDS or other critical illnesses in San Diego County. For more information, visit the Mama's Kitchen web site (http://www.mamaskitchen.org).
